Fishery Restoration /Or Put Some Back Committee
Goals and Methods:
The primary goal is to improve the walleye and sauger population in the Mississippi River from Lock & Dam 8 through Lock & Dam 19. The secondary goal is to improve walleye and sauger population in the States of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
We can achieve these goals by the following methods:
We will cooperate with the States D.N.R by providing manpower and/or cost-sharing programs that improve walleye and sauger populations.
Promotion of Water quality and habitat improvement
Protection and/or improvement of spawning areas
Promotion of selective harvest & protection of the resource.
Holding fishing tournaments that are timed with the walleye spawn. Collect spawn and return fish to native environment. Then cooperate with States D.N.R to raise fry or fingerling for stocking.
Portable Hatchery facilities.
Influence the Army Corps of Engineers to consider the walleye fishery in their plans for the river. Attend their planning meetings and have our voice heard on the walleye environment.
Use our web site to promote our ideas and create a forum for change.
Public education of issues important to the resource.
Letter writing & petitions to gain support for our goals.
Other methods and activities that may have a positive affect on the improvement and stability of walleye and sauger populations in the Mississippi River.
Mississippi Walleye Club will help provide the needed resources to achieve the above goals through fund-raising efforts and by recruiting volunteer labor when possible. All written communications will be approved by the Mississippi Walleye Club Board of Directors.
